From the Pool to PR: SW Strategies hires Philippine national swimmer to reinforce its regional PR team
SINGAPORE, 17 JULY 2025: Martin Pupos is no stranger to high-stakes, international arenas. An elite swimmer who has competed on the world stage, and who has supported a number of political campaigns in the Philippines, he delivers that competitive edge and strategic knowledge to SW Strategies as the firm continues to expand its presence in Southeast Asia.
Martin is one of the newest additions to the diverse, regional team of SW Strategies, a leading public relations and strategic communications firm with client interests in Southeast Asia.
Based in Manila, he brings to the team a robust background in political communications, startup brand development, and competitive sport. He has worked in the background on several national political campaigns, where he advised candidates and advocacy groups on public relations strategy, communications, and community engagement. He also previously helped MSMEs acquire potential investments, advising them how to build compelling brand stories, refine pitches, and adapt to fast-paced media landscapes.
In addition to his communications experience, Martin is also an accomplished elite-level, competitive swimmer, having represented the Philippines in international competitions like the ASEAN University Games, and continues to compete in qualifying trials for the Philippine national swim team.
As a high-performance athlete, his competitive career also earned him sponsorships from international brands such as TYR, GU Energy, and PTP, making him a recognised name both in sports and personal branding strategy.
“I’m excited to start this new journey with SW Strategies, a team that values purpose, bold storytelling, and social impact,” Martin said.
“Training and competing as an elite athlete taught me how to stay focused, adapt fast, and move with consistency. These lessons shaped the way I approach campaigns that create real change.”
The hiring of Martin Pupos highlights SW Strategies’ ongoing commitment to diversity and multidisciplinary leadership, blending professional expertise with multifaceted backgrounds.
The firm continues to grow its young and dynamic team of strategists and communicators that specialise in public relations advisory, corporate communications, and advocacy campaigns across Southeast Asia.
“Martin has gone headfirst in organising political campaigns, and has also proudly stood on the podiums at international swim meets. In him, we saw someone with a mix of grit, discipline, and instinct that’s hard to teach. We’re lucky to have him on the team and more importantly, he will fit right in with the way we do our work: committed, passionate, and creative,” said Jose Raymond, SW Strategies founder and managing director.
With Martin on board, SW Strategies can continue to provide its clients with culturally relevant, innovative, and strategic public relations and communications initiatives that can influence public opinion, shape policy agenda, and drive real impact.
Among his pet projects would be to bring to life SW Strategies’ very own regional social impact programme which is being developed from scratch.
